Richard Komar’s Bio
Rich started training Gracie Jiu Jitsu in 1997. He trained with Eric Scheffler and Bill Mazur at the former South Jersey Gracie Jiu Jitsu Training Association located in Linwood. Rich received his blue belt from Royce Gracie in 1998 at the Linwood School. Eric introduced Rich to Steve Maxwell of Maxercise in Philadelphia Pa. Rich began taking lessons from Steve at Maxercise where he met Phil Migliarese. Rich began taking the classes Phil taught and their friendship grew. After leaving Maxercise, Rich was instrumental in convincing Phil to open Balance Studios.
With Phil as his instructor Rich began competing.
1998 Kimono Kmobat Championships 4th Place
1999 Kimono Kombat Championships 4th Place
2000 Mundial Competitor in Rio De Janeiro
2001 Relson Gracie Nationals at Ohio State University 1st Place
Rich was then promoted to purple belt by Relson Gracie in September 2002.
Rich was promoted to brown belt by Phil Migliarese in June of 2006
2006 Rich open a private school at his home and began teaching.
2007 Copa Atlantica Championships 1st Place heavy weight, 2nd Place light heavy
2008 Beast of the East Championships 1st Place no-gi executive advanced division and 1st Place light heavy weight executive gi division
Rich was promoted to Black Belt in May of 2009 by Phil and Ricardo Migliarese. Rich’s 2 sons also train Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Phillip is a blue belt under Royce Gracie and Adam is a brown belt under Phil Migliarese and Rich.
